Thomas Peter Friedl is a film producer in addition to his role as Managing Director and CEO of UFA Cinema’s operations. With the revival of the UFA brand as one of the world’s most famous and historic brands in cinema production, Bertelsmann, RTL Group and FremantleMedia are sending a clear signal about the continued importance of cinema in the digital age.  

Since the formation of UFA Cinema in 2008, Friedl has been the producer responsible for the adaptation of the popular children’s and young-adult bestsellers TEUFELSKICKER (DEVIL´S KICKERS) and HANNI & NANNI (THE O´SULLIVAN TWINS), the comedy DIE RELATIVITÄTSTHEORIE DER LIEBE (THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY IN LOVE) starring Katja Riemann and Olli Dittrich, Sabine Kuegler’s autobiographical bestseller DSCHUNGELKIND (JUNGLE CHILD), and is currently working on the thriller IN THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE (WT) starring Moritz Bleibtreu and directed by Dennis Gansel (THE WAVE), JESUS LOVES ME (WT) directed and written by Florian David Fitz, THE WEEKEND– drama adapted from the eponymous bestseller by Bernhard Schlink and the CGI animation film MARNIES WELT.  

Currently Friedl is preparing the movie productions HONKY TONK PIRATES, SCHÖNHEITSWAHN (BEAUTY MANIA), MIESES KARMA (BAD KARMA), HEMPELS SOFA (HEMPEL’S SOFA), as well as GLENNKILL (THREE BAGS FULL) and FATHERLAND based by international bestsellers.   Until 2008, Friedl sat on the Board and served as President Distribution & Marketing and of Constantin Film AG, a company he left at the beginning of 2008 after 18 years. Under Friedl’s supervision, the company distributed the two most successful German films of all time: DER SCHUH DES MANITU (box office in Germany: USD 84.5 million) and (T)RAUMSCHIFF SURPRISE (box office in Germany: USD 66.3 million). In the 12 years that Friedl was at its helm, films distributed by Constantin Film drew more than 180 million moviegoers and generated over 1 billion USD in box-office sales in Germany alone.  

In international distribution, Friedl was in charge of the box-office exploitation of successful productions such as the first three RESIDENT EVIL films, which together have generated over USD 700 million worldwide at the various exploitation stages, and PERFUME – THE STORY OF A MURDERER, with worldwide box-office sales exceeding USD 105 million to date. Friedl also helped to manage various campaigns for the Academy Awards, incl. NIRGENDWO IN AFRIKA (Oscar for Best Foreign Film 2001) and DER UNTERGANG (nominated for Best Foreign Film 2005).     

For the past 7 years Thomas Peter Friedl has served as Chairman of the German distributors' association (Verband der Filmverleiher), and as Chairman of the “ARTISTS FOR KIDS - Projekt für kreative Jugendhilfe” youth outreach project, which he cofounded with Bernd Eichinger in 1999.
