Jürgen Schuster studied economics and business administration at the Universities of Freiburg and Tübingen. He wrote his doctorate in cooperation with Süddeutscher Rundfunk, as part of a project about the strategic management of public-service broadcasting companies funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).   From 1988 to 1993, he worked for Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SR): first as a consultant in the director’s office, after which he was responsible for setting up and supervising programme management for the SR’s public-service broadcasters group.  

In November 1993, he left to join RTL Television in Cologne, where he was put in charge with establishing and managing the newly created Production Management department.  

In October 1999, he joined UFA Film und TV Produktion, where he took over what was then the Talent Network division. At the same time he was appointed to the management boards of several companies, including teamWorx in Berlin and HDTV in Munich (until June 2002).

Since January 2002, Jürgen Schuster has also sat on the management board of Phoenix-Film, Berlin. He works as a managing director and producer at teamWorx Television & Film GmbH, branches in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Leipzig and Ludwigsburg since 1999.

Jürgen Schuster oversaw several award winning movies as a producer.  One of his most successfull productions is the two-part movie "Die Flucht", which was seen by more than 13 Million people during its first broad cast. Among other awards the movie received the "audience Bambi" as well as " best TV movie" at the Shanghai Television  Festival. Further multi awarded TV movies are "Das Wunder von Berlin (German Television award for the leading role played by Michael Gwisdek as well as the "Golden Chest" award for best Screenplay, best movie at the International TV Festival in Budapest), " Nicht alle waren Mörder" (three "Grimme Awards" and recently "Mogadishu" which won amongst other awards the "Romy", "Diva", "goldene Kamera" as well as a special award for its director Roland Suso Richter at the Bavarian Television Award . In September 2009 the movie „Mogadischu“ won the German Television Award in the category “Best Television Movie

In spring 2008, he was appointed to the management of the newly founded UFA Cinema, where he is supervising a couple  feature film productions, this year- amongst others "Teufelskicker/ Devils Kickers", "Hanni & Nanni/ The O´Sullivan Twins", "Tauben auf dem Dach (AT)/ Two in the Bush (WT)" as well as "Dschungelkind/ Jungle Child".

With the revival of the UFA brand as one of the world’s most famous and historic brands in cinema production Bertelsmann, RTL Group and FremantleMedia are sending a clear signal about the continued importance of cinema in the digital age.
